The allowance paid to trainees has been faced with numerous critiques. According to Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch, he has criticised that, monies paid to both nurses and teacher trainees are senseless and should be used in expanding their infrastructure to enable others to access such schools.

“It doesn’t make sense to pay allowances for nurses and teachers when we need money to expand infrastructure and increase access,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Tuesday.

This could be argued that, his assertions are in line with the NDC government who said it was cancelling the allowances in other to expand infrastructure so they could take more applicants.

Meanwhile the Nana Addo led administration who were in opposition at that time said, the allowance is very necessary for it will encourage massive enrollment.
