President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says claims by John Dramani Mahama to review the much-touted Free Senior High School (SHS) policy is another word for cancellation.
Former President of Ghana has said that any individual who says he will cancel Free SHS is a liar and that he will rather review the programme in order to offer Ghanaians a well-implemented programme.
But speaking at the just-ended event to launch the NPP’s manifesto, the President who Free SHS is his brainchild said there is the need to protect the programme because it was too difficult to implement.
He said Mahama’s urge to review the policy is another word for cancelling the policy that has ensured that most people who drop out of school after JHS are given the opportunity to finish Senior High School in order to make them employable.
“I take pride in the fact that Free SHS and Free TVET have been delivered, and our young people and their parents and guardians know that they will no longer be forced to stop school at JHS level because of financial difficulties. It was not easily done and so, we intend to protect it and prevent any so-called “review”, another word for cancellation”. He claimed.
“For 8 years, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC kicked against Free SHS and also struggled to implement their watered-down version of the progressively free SHS…free SHS and free TVET can’t be entrusted into your hands.”
