Some trained teachers who completed in 2016, 2017 and 2018 have been facing challenges in respect to their postings. The trained teachers who completed colleges of education and have written their licensure exams as well as completed their one-year mandatory National Service are still grounded hoping and praying to be posted someday. It is very sad to be imperilled to another vein of sophisticated thinking, after the trauma and pains trainees go through.
Our checks have revealed that about 2,000 back locks of 2016 and 2017 trained teachers were not posted, over 18,000 trained teachers were supposed to be posted by GES even before the introduction of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) which denied graduates job opportunity.
The Minister of Education on 4th June 2018, in a meeting with TTAG and other unions indicated that all 2016 and 2017 back locks shall be posted together with 2018 batch. This statement was further intensified as the Minister again added that financial clearance has been secured for 14,956 trained teachers from the Ministry of Finance.
TWJ in an interview with one Gyekye Emmanuel who completed Foso College of Education in 2018 but with 2017 index number recounted his ordeal. “I had referral that was in 2017, the then Government at that time instructed all students with three referrals to go home. The only option given us at that time was to repeat and join the 2018 batch of trainees. Some left the colleges while others also repeated to join the 2018 batch of trainees. Our index numbers, that was the 2017 index numbers were maintained. We used that throughout our study in College without any problem.
We completed college hoping to get postings but we still haven’t been posted. What they told us was, our index numbers are 2017 and those who completed college in 2017 had already received their financial clearance so we can’t be posted with the 2018 batch”.
“Ironically, I remember during their campaign message at St. Monica’s College of Education, the Minister of Education assured us that all backlogs that is persons who completed Colleges of Education in 2017 would be posted with the 2018 batch. We had hope but now we are grounded and always anticipating for something positive”.
In his final submission he told TWJ that it is very painful because he opted for College with the aim of getting a job. “It is very painful because I came to College of Education because of the ready job. I equally qualify for the universities but I chose College. They should please post us; we are begging”.
